Yes. USBtoCloud uses a Web (Internet) connection to do an online (cloud) backup. It involves sending a copy of the data over an Internet network to a server. Of course, you can work offline with your drive and once an Internet connection is available, all your files will automatically upload to the cloud.
You can always reinstall USBtoCloud software from here and continue with your trial. NOTE: On the same device you will be able to use the trial version for 30 days only and will need to buy it after the 30-day FREE TRIAL is up.
Your USBtoCloud icon should be green… …and the status should say “Backup up to date” for the currently listed drive. You can also check your cloud storage provider’s site and look for your files. Your files should be inside your Cloud’s Apps/USB-to-Cloud folder
If your external drive has not been infected, you can enable Drive Security Antivirus so every file copied from your computer into the drive will be scanned for viruses and not copied (or backed up). Your license will be automatically recovered once you reinstall USBtoCloud software onto your drive. See: How do I install USBtoCloud?

Most likely you changed “What to Backup” option in the Settings menu. Change it back to “All files” or check the desired boxes.
Usually Internet upload speed is much slower than download. But if upload is really slow then it’s likely due to your Internet connection. Also, if you have a lot of files on your USB drive the first-time backup will take longer. Once the initial backup has completed future backups will be much faster.
Most likely you accidentally deleted USBtoCloud application from the drive, but don’t worry – you can download it again from here.
